President Rumen Radev Sunday presented composer Stefan Diomov with the head of State's Honorary Sign for his works' great significance for contemporary music art as well as his key role as a composer and music teacher in artistic enrichment, development and affirmation of Bulgarian culture national and internationally. The ceremony took place at the National Music Theatre in Sofia, where the Hello, How Are You Friend musical with Diomov's music was performed for the composer's 80th birthday.
Presenting the distinction, Radev said: "Tonight, dear Maestro, you receive the greatest reward - the affection and appreciation of your ardent admirers. It has been a real pleasure for me, as an admirer of yours since my youth, and for everyone in this hall to be part of your celebration. But I am also here out of a sense of duty as head of State, to express my deep respect for your bright talent and appreciation for your dedication, commitment and creativity, which remain forever in the hearts of Bulgarians. During all the years of your long creative path, you not only created: you gave of yourself. With your music, more than one generation of Bulgarians and a whole host of talented artists grew up."
Diomov said he had never imagined that he would celebrate his birthday in this way. He thanked the President for the high distinction. "I am turning 80, but that is not at all scary if one does not count one's years, but one's happy moments and friends. And in this home - the Music Theatre, I have many friends," said Diomov. "My gratitude and bow to the esteemed audience for making me cry so many times already," he added.
