Continue the Change (CC) will participate in negotiations for forming a government only with parties that have signed the declaration of a cordon sanitaire (sanitary cordon) around Delyan Peevski's party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning, CC said in a press release on Monday following a meeting of the National Council of the party.
If Democratic Bulgaria (CC's coalition partners) starts negotiations with GERB on the declaration's priorities without CC's position having been implemented, CC will respect DB's decision, but without participating in the negotiations.
CC will reconsider its position to start negotiations with GERB only if there is an official change in GERB's position and after the declaration is signed.
CC confirms that it will not participate in negotiations on forming a cabinet with Vazrazhdane due to differences in values, regardless of their position on the declaration.
"We will work with all parliamentary groups except MRF - New Beginning to implement the legislative measures of the declaration to remove the Peevski model from the governance of Bulgaria", CC’s position reads. Peevski has been sanctioned for corruption by the US and the UK.
Earlier on Monday, the DB coalition came out with a position that Bulgaria should have a regular government that is pro-European and an anti-corruption one, one united around a prime minister who is equidistant from all political forces, rather than being a highly polarized party figure.
On Tuesday, President Rumen Radev will begin consultations with the parliamentary groups in the 51st National Assembly, Radev’s press secretariat said earlier. At 9.30 a.m., the head of State will hold talks with representatives of the GERB-UDF coalition, while at 11.30 a.m. he will hold consultations with representatives of the CC-DB coalition.
