The Cabinet's main priority is the development of nuclear energy in strict compliance with all international safety and environmental standards, said caretaker Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov at the signing ceremony of the engineering contract for new nuclear capacities at Kozloduy NPP site No. 2, which was held at the Council of Ministers building on Monday. According to Malinov, the consistent efforts for the implementation of the Unit 7 and Unit 8 project at the approved Kozloduy site have resulted in this contract.
The contract between NPP Kozloduy New Builds Plc and Westinghouse HDEC DZZD was signed by Petyo Ivanov, Executive Director of NPP Kozloduy New Builds, Elias Gedeon of the Westinghouse Electric Company, and Yoon Young-Joon, President and CEO of Hyundai Engineering & Construction.
Vladimir Malinov thanked Westinghouse and Hyundai for responding to the Bulgarian side's wish to create a consortium, which allows to work together with both companies and to receive service from one legal entity.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction was selected by the Bulgarian National Assembly to negotiate for engineering, construction, supplies and launch of Reactor Units 7 and 8 at the Kozloduy NPP using AP1000 technology of Westinghouse.
