An outbreak of bird flu has been detected on a poultry farm in the village of Bolyarsko, Yambol region and some 350,000 birds will be culled, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) said on its website. 

A three-kilometre protection zone has been set up around the farm. The 10-kilometre surveillance zone includes Yambol, six villages in the Tundzha municipality - Bezmer, Hadzhidimitrovo, Botevo, Boyadzhik, Roza and Galabintsi, and villages of Chokoba, Skobelevo and Bozadzhii in Sliven Region

Movements of poultry and other birds, their products and animal by-products, poultry feed, as well as transport vehicles related to processes at the facility are being monitored.

The epizootic commissions in Yambol region will be convened, Dr. Stoyan Kolev, head of the Animal Health Department at the Yambol Regional Food Safety Directorate, told BTA.

The management team of poultry producer Gradus forecast that losses will reach not less than 25 million BGN. The poultry farm is operated by a subsidiary of the company.
