Dozens of people gathered in front of the Palace of Justice in Sofia on Wednesday to protest violence against women.
According to the event’s organizers, at least 13 women in Bulgaria have fallen victim to domestic abuse since the beginning of 2024.
The protesters insisted that the Protection against Domestic Violence Act protect every victim, regardless of their race, ethnicity, age, disability, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, financial standing, etc.
They also voiced their demand for the establishment of crisis and counseling centers for victims of violence in every district of the country.
The protesters also demanded that the State fulfill its commitment to produce official statistics on gender-based violence and that mandatory sex education classes be introduced in the school curriculum as a preventive measure against sexual harassment.
