site.btaCabinet Appoints New Regional Governors of Kardzhali, Smolyan

The Cabinet Wednesday adopted a decision appointing new governors of the regions of Kardzhali and Smolyan (South Bulgaria) and relieving of duty their predecessors, the Government Information Service said.

Nikola Chanev was appointed Governor of Kardzhali Region. He has many years of experience working at the local office of the National Revenue Agency. He holds a master's degree in Accounting and Control from the University of National and World Economy, and a degree in National and Regional Security from the Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv, the Government Information Service added. Chanev, who will be serving as Kardzhali Regional Governor for the third time, succeeded Resmi Murad.

Zahari Sirakov was appointed Governor of Smolyan Region. A graduate of the Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv, he is a legal expert by profession. Sirakov had worked as a legal advisor at the Regional Environment and Water Inspectorate in Smolyan. He was a municipal councillor in the southern town in the period 2011-2015. He has worked as a lawyer for most of his career. This will be the second time Sirakov serves as Smolyan Regional Governor. He succeeded Rumen Pehlivanov.
