A helicopter for emergency medical assistance has carried out the first mountain rescue mission on Botev Peak in the Balkan mountains, Bulgaria Heli Med Service said Sunday.

The air ambulance was dispatched to the site after a signal from the Mountain Rescue Service (PRS) and carried out by Captains Ognyan Yankov and Velin Andreev. They performed flights to provide emergency assistance in the area of Botev Peak. The injured was transported to the St. George University Hospital in Plovdiv (Central Bulgaria).

This is the first real helicopter emergency medical service mission (HEMS) in mountain conditions, said Heli Med Services. They thank the Mountain Rescue Service for the fruitful cooperation, as well as the medical team on board the helicopter - Dr. Tina Dimitrova and nurse Teodora Ardalska.

The Mountain Rescue Service told BTA earlier that during the past day the mountain rescuers transported an injured hiker on Botev Peak and another who had fainted in the Kozia Wall area of the Balkan Mountains.
