The GERB-UDF coalition, which won the largest number of seats in the newly elected National Assembly, on Monday is opening negotiations on the formation of a cabinet with the rest of the parliamentary parties.
The coalition proposes an expert cabinet on their mandate and with GERB-UDF representatives occupying the positions of prime minister, foreign minister, and defence minister.
GERB leader Boyko Borissov will not be candidate for prime minister, and the coalition will reveal the names of their candidates during the talks.
The political force believes that agreement must be reached on two negotiable topics for negotiations in order to move forward: the government and Parliament.
A day before the GERB's news conference, one of MRF’s chairs, Delyan Peevski, said that a Parliament-elected government is needed to stabilize the country. He called on all Euro-Atlantic leaders on the political stage to start a conversation about Bulgaria's future and urged Borissov to start this process.
Continue the Change Co-chair Kiril Petkov said in a Facebook post that no matter what government Borissov proposed, they would assume the role of opposition.
Yes Bulgaria (part of the Continue the Change - Democtratic Bulgaria coalition) also said in a statement that its MPs will not share in the formation of the cabinet and will not support it.
Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov said that his party would only support a government of their own. According to him, there are two possible scenarios: the formation of a cabinet "that will put off the inevitable end of those who enter it”, or new parliamentary eections this coming autumn.
The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) National Council on Sunday confirmed its decision not to support a government led by GERB or the MRF, according to acting party chair Atanas Zafirov.
