Pretrial proceedings were instituted in 97 cases of suspected violations of citizens' political rights and 597 case files were set up from the start of the election campaign at 24:00 hrs on May 9 until 12:00 hrs on June 10, the prosecution service reported on Monday.

The 97 cases include 34 in Sofia, 27 in Burgas, 23 in Varna, 8 in Veliko Tarnovo and 5 in Plovdiv.

No major offences were reported on the night of the June 9 elections to the National Assembly and the European Parliament, the Interior Ministry said. Over 16,000 Interior Ministry employees provided security and responded to alerts related to the elections, caretaker Minister of Interior Kalin Stoyanov said on Sunday.

The ministry received 583 alerts from the start of the campaign to the end of polling day. They were about vote buying and other electoral offences.
