site.btaJustice Minister Checks Arrangements for June 9 Voting in Prisons

Caretaker Justice Minister Maria Pavlova Thursday visited the prisons in Stara Zagora and Sliven (Southeastern Bulgaria) to check the preparation and organization for the June 9 elections for national and European parliament. According to official data, there are 660 prisoners and 603 detainees across Bulgaria with the right to vote this Sunday, the Justice Ministry said in a press release. The detainees and prisoners with the right to vote number 78 in Stara Zagora and 41 in Sliven.

Thirteen polling stations will be set up in prisons and 12, at detention facilities. In accordance with the Election Code and the Central Election Commission's decision of May 23, 2024, a polling station is set up when there are at least ten voters at a given location.

During Pavlova's visit, she heard reports about the plans for the internal organization for election day, ensuring strict rules for the movement of the prisoners to the ballot boxes.
