Sunday's Parliamentary Elections Have 1,500 More Candidates Compared to Last April's

There will be over 1,500 more MP candidates in Sunday's election compared to the April, 2023 parliamentary elections. shows data from a check by BTA's Reference department.

There are a total of 6,100 MP candidates in Sunday's general elections, Central Election Commission (CEC) Spokesperson Rositsa Mateva said earlier this week. A total of 1,506 candidates are running in two regions. A total of 1,826 MP candidates are women and 4,274 are men. There are over 1,500 more candidates compared to the last general elecitons held on April 2, 2023, when the 240 seats in Parliament were contested by 4,566 MP candidates. Of these, 1,341 were women and 3,225 were men.

In the European Parliament (EP) elections, the number of candidates are 418, of whom 131 are women and 287 are men. This compares to 318 MEP candidates in the previous EP elections, held in 2019.

On Sunday, Bulgarians will vote for Parliament for the sixth time in the last three years, and this is the fifth snap elections after the last regular parliamentary elections held on April 4, 2021.
