Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov, who visited the village of Oresh in Svishtov Municipality, said that he got a complaint from concerned citizens that GERB-Svishtov are planning to shut down the school, the Vazrazhdane press service reported. Kostadinov said that many children go to school there, and closing it may result in the village getting depopulated.
The leader of Vazrazhdane said that he will request a meeting with the caretaker Minister of Education and Science Galin Tsokov on Monday. He added that shutting down schools in smaller settlements drives people to migrate to bigger cities in Bulgaria or abroad.
Kostadinov said: "When you shut down a school, you doom the settlement, you kill the village. This is exactly what GERB is doing - killing the smallest territorial unit - the village, which has been essential for the preservation of our country historically, providing a living for the population. That is why we will fight for this village, for this school and for every other school we can save and preserve from the powers that be."
