The State Agency for Road Safety has prepared an illustrated colouring booklet especially for Children's Day - June 1, the agency's press centre said on Friday. The booklet entitled "Safe on the Road" has educational content suitable for the youngest in kindergartens as well as for older children.

The main purpose of the booklet is to serve as a road safety lesson for the children. A variety of situations that children may find themselves in on the road are recreated with interesting drawings to colour in. In this way, by looking at and colouring the pictures, the youngest road traffic participants will learn to play away from the road and never jump out into the open street, to look around when crossing, no matter if it is on a crosswalk or a traffic light. The book is also tailored to other situations that are covered in the curriculum, such as safely riding bikes and scooters away from moving vehicles. Last but not least, emphasis is placed on wearing seat belts and travelling safely and securely in a child seat. The Agency hopes that with the help of teachers and parents, children will learn through experience in a way that is interesting and engaging for them.

The booklet is available for free downloading from the Agency's website.

In addition, an educational video has been uploaded on their website and social media to direct parents' attention to personal example and how to teach children to cross safely.

The crosswalk is the place to cross, but we need to know that it is not safe because children and all pedestrians are some of the most vulnerable road traffic participants. From an early age, little ones should know and remember that they should always stop and look carefully at the traffic situation before crossing. It is important to make eye contact with the driver of the vehicle, make sure they have seen them and wait for them to stop, the Agency pointed out.
