Vazrazhdane is the only political force which can guarantee peace in Bulgaria, party leader Kostadin Kostadinov said in the BTA Press Club in Sliven on Wednesday, presenting Vazrazhdane's election ticket in the local constituency.

Kostadinov said: "We hear that our government is under pressure from the Embassy of the United States to send a half-company-sized unit of 200 troops to Odesa Province to make Bulgaria directly involved in the military conflict."

"The choice on June 9 is, Vazrazhdane or war," he stated.

Discussing the phasing in of US nuclear fuel at Reactor Unit 5 of Bulgaria's Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, Kostadinov described it as "a huge risk calling into question the security of Bulgaria and Europe", because this kind of fuel is "unsuitable and unsafe". "In a bid to keep the price of electricity artificially low, the Kozloduy Plant is being practically killed," he added.

The top-of-the-list candidate of Vazrazhdane in Sliven, Kliment Shopov, vowed to work for the return of Bulgarians from abroad. He noted that the population of the region has decreased by 26% in 25 years.
