site.btaMRF Leader Chakarov Calls for Unity among Bulgarians

Dzhevdet Chakarov, one of the two leaders of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), called for unity and togetherness here on Sunday. He said that efforts still have to be made in order to overcome the divide among the Bulgarian people.

Chakarov spoke about the Revival Process, a policy of forced assimilation practiced by the communist regime in the 1980s and directed at the country's Muslim minority. He said: "Bulgarian history is yet to assess adequately what happened. The forced assimilation policy of the repressive apparatus of the communist regime against us, the Bulgarian Turks, has deep consequences in Bulgarian society to this day. Therefore, we call for togetherness and unity for the successful advancement of our Bulgaria."
