site.btaUPDATED Seven Randomly Selected Voting Machines to Undergo Compliance Certification
The serial numbers of seven voting machines that will be certified for compliance for the upcoming June 9 two-in-one elections were drawn at random at the Electronic Governance Ministry on Monday.
The procedure was public and attended by the caretaker Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dimitar Glavchev, caretaker Electronic Governance Minister Valentin Mundrov, and representatives of the Central Election Commission and its Public Council. Representatives of the parliamentary parties were also invited to the public drawing.
Representatives of the media also participated in the drawing of the serial numbers in order to make the procedure as transparent as possible, one of the numbers was drawn by a BTA reporter.
Electronic Governance Minister Mundrov stressed the importance of restoring citizens' confidence in the voting machine and holding fair and democratic elections on June 9.
"Taking office, I have already stated that the process of certifying the machines will be open, transparent and public," Mundrov said before the procedure began.
Once the software is installed and the machines are made available to us, the verification of compliance will begin. The process will be public and external experts will also be involved, he noted.
Prime Minister Glavchev said that the government is committed and its main obligation is to ensure that the elections are fair. He added that the ultimate goal is to convince the voters that their vote will be counted correctly and ultimately to restore confidence in the election process, which will lead to an increase in the voter turnout.
