The Sofia Military Medical Academy (MMA) hosted the 14th Endourology and Minimally Invasive Surgery Meeting on April 26-27, MMA said in a press release on Sunday.

The annual scientific event was organized by the MMA Department of Urology and Nephrology with the support of the Section of Urolithiasis of the European Urology Association, the Academy of Endourology Online Learning Platform, the Experts in Urolithiasis Scientific Organization, the International Alliance on Urolithiasis, the Southeastern Group for Urolithiasis Research, and the scientific organization Urology in Developing Countries.

The forum’s aim was to offer an up-to-date insight into modern diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in endourology and minimally invasive surgery, said Prof. Iliya Saltirov, Chair of the Organizing Committee and head of the Department of Urology and Nephrology.

Participating in the event were 24 university professors and experienced surgeons from 10 countries - Austria, Bulgaria, the UK, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, China, Singapore, and Turkiye. The forum attracted considerable interest from the international community - dozens of experts attended the Conference Centre of the Military Medical Academy, and over 150 online registered participants from 43 countries followed the forum live.

Over the two-day meeting, participants had the opportunity to observe 14 surgeries: 8 in the live surgery sessions and 6 prerecorded surgeries. State-of-the-art upper and lower urinary tract surgery techniques and equipment were presented during the surgery sessions. The scientific program included six state-of-the-art lectures, six lectures dedicated to new technologies in urology, six lectures on metabolic research and the conservative treatment of urolithiasis.
