The officially reported cases of pertussis (whooping cough) in Bulgaria number 387 as at April 24, Dr Kremena Parmakova, head of the Communicable Disease Surveillance Department at the Health Ministry, told journalists on Wednesday, citing data of the National Centre of Public Health and Analyses. She took part in a seminar dedicated to vaccines within the marking of the European Immunization Week. 

Until April 21, the biggest number of infected (107) were in the 10-14 age group, but the highest morbidity rate was observed in children aged under 1 (67 per 100,000 children under the age of 1, or 37 children). The morbidity rate was 15 per 100,000 in the 15-19 age group, and there were 27 infected in the over-25 age group.

Until April 21, the biggest number of cases were reported in Sofia; there were no cases reported in 11 regions of Bulgaria, Dr Parmakova said.
