National Council against Domestic Violence to Hold Inaugural Meeting

The National Council for Prevention and Protection from Domestic Violence, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel, will hold its first meeting at the Council of Ministers' building here at 2.30 p.m., the Government press service reported. The agenda will include briefing on the enforcement of the Protection Against Domestic Violence Act and the role of the Council of Ministers in this process.

The Council will present and adopt the Coordination Mechanism for Assistance and Support to Victims of Domestic Violence. Priority activities for funding projects on prevention and protection from domestic violence will also be discussed and identified, the government press service said.

More than 30,000 domestic violence alerts were submitted to the 112 emergency number in 2023, according to official data released on February 8 in conjunction with European Emergency Number Day. For 2023, calls to the emergency number related to domestic violence were 30,592, up from 27,894 in 2022 and 26,248 in 2019.
