Bulgaria's Innovation and Growth Minister Milena Stoycheva and Egypt's Communications and Information Technology Minister Amr Talaat Saturday discussed ways to step up cooperation between the two countries in innovation, technology and the IT industry, digitalization, artificial intelligence and investment opportunities, Stoycheva's Ministry said.

The two countries' Joint Cooperation Commission held its first session. The Bulgarian delegation includes InvestBulgaria Agency Executive Director Mila Nenova and Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency Executive Director Boyko Takov.

She presented the five thematic areas for smart specialization: ICT, mechatronics and microelectronics, bioeconomy and biotechnologies, creative and recreational industries, and circular and low-carbon economy as the high added value sectors whose development is a priority. The two ministers also discussed investment in human capital, R&D centres, the development of the IT and automotive sectors in the two countries and steps to turn them into regional innovation hubs.

Stoycheva briefed the Minister of Telecommunications on the activities of the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT).

The Bulgarian and Egyptian ministers agreed to cooperate on new technologies through concrete projects.

They also discussed Bulgaria's advantages as a good investment destination, the press release said. The two ministries agreed to start work towards signing a memorandum on innovation, as well as to prepare business visits by delegations from Bulgaria and Egypt.
