Bulgaria and Mexico held their fifth round of political consultations in Mexico City on January 23, 2024, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said on Monday. The Bulgarian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Tihomir Stoytchev, and the Mexican delegation was led by acting Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Jennifer Feller.
The sides discussed matters concerning bilateral relations, with a focus on the maintenance of regular political dialogue, the promotion of trade and economic ties, cooperation in innovation, renewable energy sources, pharmaceutics, education, science, culture and tourism. Special attention was paid to the prospects of reopening the Mexican diplomatic mission in Sofia.
The sides agreed to maintain regular political dialogue by which they will contribute to the advancement of bilateral relations in other areas of mutual interest.
In the sphere of international and regional cooperation, views were exchanged on human rights, the environment and climate change, and reciprocal support for bids for various bodies in the UN system.
Within his visit to Mexico, Stoytchev held meetings with members of the Bulgarian community, with Ambassador Gautier Mignot, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Mexico, with Ireland's Ambassador to Mexico Maeve von Heynitz, and with Mario Lopez Roldan, Head of the OECD Mexico Centre for Latin America.
