site.btaForeign Minister Gabriel: There Will Be Salary Increase for Staff in Overseas Missions

There will be an increase in the salaries of employees working in the overseas representations and the budget of the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad will be increased, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel during Question Time in the National Assembly. She was speaking about the modernisation of the diplomatic service.

According to her, "a modern and strong diplomatic service will be a guarantee for Bulgaria to be a factor of stability in this part of Europe and to show its role as an innovation leader".

Gabriel pointed to the update of the regulation on allowances for long-term seconded staff. The regulation had not been updated since 2008, she added. For 2024, the budget of the Foreign Ministry has been increased by more than BGN 13 million, Gabriel added.

The Ministry has had new rules of procedure since December and the change is aimed at streamlining and better coordination. For the first time there will be a general directorate for global affairs, she explained.
