site.btaAlert against Vassil Terziev Challenges His Legitimacy as Mayor of Sofia
The Sofia Municipal Election Commission held an extraordinary meeting on Friday to look into an alert about the legitimacy of Vassil Terziev's status as the new mayor of the capital. The Commission has received a complaint from Radio and Television Station "Truth and Freedom" about the probable incompatibility of Vassil Terziev's mayoralty due to his shareholding in the company Maj.io Ltd.
City Hall said in a press release that Terziev did not violate effective legislation and meets all requirements of the law on local self-governance. City Hall vowed to provide full cooperation to the competent institutions to sort out the relevant facts and circumstances.
Offering their take on the matter, City Hall said that nearly a month before being sworn in as mayor, back on October 17, 2023, Vassil Terziev exited his minority interest in the company, in which he had not performed a management function, with a share transfer agreement. This is the date on which Terziev effectively ceased to be the owner. It is the responsibility of the company from which he exited a month before taking office to reflect the changes in the Commercial Register. Moreover, the entry of the changes in the Commercial Register has only a disclosive and protective effect, the municipality noted.
Newly elected mayor of Sofia Vassil Terziev took the oath of office before the Sofia Municipal Council at the Council's first meeting in the 2023-2027 term on 13 November.
