Due to a large fire that broke out earlier on Tuesday initially in the land surrounding the village of Cherepovo in the Sakar Mountains, Haskovo Regional Governor Mehmed Ataman declared a state of emergency on the territory of the municipalities of Harmanli and Topolovgrad, the press centre of the regional administration said later on Tuesday.

The fire broke out at about 1:35 pm. Mixed forest, dry grasses and shrubs are burning, eight teams of firefighters are on the spot, but wind is hampering containment. A helicopter was also called on to help.

Later in the day, the Road Infrastructure Agency informed that the section between the village of Cherepovo and the Golyamata Zvezda road junction, traffic on road II-55 Radnevo - Svilengrad, road III-809 Lyubimets - Golyamata Zvezda road junction and road II-76 Harmanli - Topolovgrad are temporarily restricted. There is no possibility for establishing a detour route in the section.

The Haskovo regional administration also pointed out that the affected areas are about 100 hectares. The fire is on two fronts, which are in the direction of the Harmanli village of Izvorovo and the village of Glavan in the municipality of Galabovo.

There is no danger to the population, the administration said.
