Hungary will continue to categorically support Bulgaria in its path towards Schengen, GERB leader Boyko Borissov wrote in a Facebook post. He also said that he had talked on Tuesday with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

"I briefed him that on Monday the National Assembly abolished the gas transmission fee. At the end of the week the decision will be gazetted.”

“The Hungarian prime minister and I rallied around the idea that all outstanding issues have been cleared and Hungary will continue to strongly support Bulgaria in its path towards Schengen", Boyko Borissov's post reads.  "Orban and I gave clear guarantees that we will continue to cooperate in the future in terms of dialogue on all topics on the EU agenda," Borissov further noted.
Hungary has threatened to veto Bulgaria's accession to Schengen if the country does not abolish the charge on Russian gas transit.

Hungary will lift its objection to Bulgaria joining Europe's passport-free Schengen zone after the Bulgarian parliament formally confirms its scrapping of an extra tax on Russian gas shipments, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Tuesday.

"I was informed by my Bulgarian colleague that yesterday the Bulgarian parliament scrapped this law," Szijjarto said in a video on his Facebook page.

He said that once the law was published on Friday as expected in the parliament's legislative periodical, Hungary would drop its objection and ask the European Commission to halt an infringement procedure that Budapest had initiated, Reuters reported.
