Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel met with US Ambassadors to Bulgaria Kenneth Merten and to Greece George Tsunis, who was on an official visit to Bulgaria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported here on Wednesday. The main topic of the meeting was cooperation between Bulgaria and the US on energy and transport connectivity. The importance of the North-South axis linking Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine was underlined.

The declaration in support of regional cooperation signed in New York and on Gabriel's initiative was also discussed. "We reaffirm our common commitment to work together on connectivity in infrastructure, transport, energy, technology and innovation to ensure a more sustainable future for the countries in the South East Europe region. The Three Seas Initiative and the construction of the North-South Corridor are of strategic importance for the region," the Foreign Minister said.

Gabriel and the two US Ambassadors also discussed the topics of Bulgaria's strategic position in NATO regarding security in the Black Sea region and cooperation between the allies in the region.

"I am glad that as NATO allies and strategic partners we are responding together to regional and global challenges," she further noted.
