Antibiotics can also be prescribed on paper prescriptions, and not just on electronic prescriptions, until the end of March 2024, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov told reporters here on Friday evening after a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of e-Government, the Bulgarian Drug Agency, the National Council on Prices and Reimbursement of Medicinal Products, Information Services, the Bulgarian Medical Association, the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union and the Bulgarian Dental Association. The meeting discussed the challenges and possible solutions to the problems with e-prescriptions for antibiotics and diabetes medications.
Denkov said that this grace period can be used to improve the software, so that it becomes more user-friendly for physicians. He added that the participants agreed that diabetes drugs will continue to be prescribed only with e-prescriptions.
The Prime Minister reported that e-prescriptions for all drugs will be implemented in some places, so that physicians can provide feedback on the experience with the software to its developer, Information Services.
