site.btaTurkish National Arrested with 17 kg of Marijuana at Bulgarian Border

On November 5, the Turkish national I. B. (aged 55) was charged and detained for trafficking 17 kg of marijuana worth BGN 272,080 through the Kapitan Petko Voyvoda checkpoint on the Bulgarian-Greek border, the press centre of the prosecutor's office reported Monday. 

In a specially constructed cache behind the back seat in the luggage compartment of the vehicle, 34 vacuum-packed polythene bags containing dried green foliage were found. A field test identified the plant matter as marijuana.

I. B. was detained for 72 hours and the state prosecution is going to ask the court for a permanent remand.
