Bulgarian, Italian Army Formations to Conduct Company Tactical Exercises at Koren Training Ground

Two company tactical exercises with the participation of formations from the Bulgarian and Italian land forces will be held from October 18 to 20 at the Koren training ground near Haskovo, Southeastern Bulgaria. More than 280 servicemen and 60 combat vehicles will take part in them, the press centre of the Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday.

Troops from the 2nd Mechanised Battalion of the 61st Stryama Mechanised Brigade and an Italian platoon from the Multinational Battle Group in Bulgaria will exercise a mechanised company’s assault tactics. Major Tsvetelin Georgiev, Commander of the 2nd Mechanised Battalion, is the leader of the exercise. The objective is to enhance the soldiers' training in occupying an area, conducting defensive combat operations, preparing for an offensive and conducting offensive combat.

The theme of the second company tactical exercise is "Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Protection". It will involve soldiers from the 61st Stryama Mechanised Brigade. Lieutenant Colonel Georgi Dimitrov, commander of the Force Protection Battalion, is the exercise leader. The troops will enhance their training in occupying and equipping an area for combat use, as well as performing nuclear, chemical and biological defence tasks in preparation for and conduct of defensive combat.
