Before the start of the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said that the government will not allow an increase in the price of electricity.

The Prime Ministers recalled that the new parliamentary session of the National Assembly begins on September 1. "We used August to prepare the last bills related to the reforms of the Recovery and Resilience Plan," he noted.

The last two of these bills will be submitted to the National Assembly in the first days of September, Denkov added, and reported that one of them is the Energy Act, which has caused "certain unrest and fears" that a substantial increase in the price of electricity may be coming.

"I want to assure all Bulgarian citizens that this will not happen," said Denkov, explaining that a pricing model is envisaged that will keep the price of electricity for household consumers unchanged until mid-2024. After that, if there is a change in the price of electricity, based on the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, it will be within no more than a few percent, the Prime Minister said.
