A large wildfire in Sakar Mountain has been contained, however it has spread to an area of 1,500 hectares. Of these 700 hectares are made up of forests, Haskovo Regional Governor Ginka Raicheva told a news briefing. 

The fire broke out on Saturday and engulfed areas from the villages of Pastrogor, Mladinovo, Momkovo and Vaskovo. 

On Monday the efforts to extinguish the fire will continue with 15 firefighting crews, three vehicles of the forestry service, six volunteers from Svilengrad and 20 local people. The town hall in Svilengrad has sent two water trucks and two track vehicles. 

On Sunday Svilengrad Mayor Anastas Karchev declared a state of disaster. Raicheva said that there are enough people and equipment. She added that she has no information yet about what caused the fire, which according to initial reports started in a meadow near the village of Mladinovo.
