An exhibition of tapestries handcrafted by Bulgarian women and immigrants from Bulgaria opened on Sunday at BTA's National Press Club in Ankara. The event was organized for the second anniversary of the opening of the Press Club in the Turkish capital.
The exhibition was organized by BTA and the Balkan Immigrants Economic Research and Social Assistance Foundation (BISAV).
Some 70 guests attended the event, including Bulgarian diplomats, employees of Turkish ministries, many dual citizens, journalists and educators, including Bulgarian language teachers.
At the opening of the exhibition, BTA's correspondent in Ankara, Nora Cholakova, recalled that BTA's Press Club is located at a symbolic address - 199 Ataturk Boulevard. The Press Club was inaugurated two years ago on February 2 - a significant date as it marks the day when the founder of the Republic of Turkiye, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, departed from Bulgaria, where he had served as a military attaché for a year and a half, BTA's correspondent said.
At the opening of the National Press Club in 2023, a documentary exhibition of the State Archives Agency titled Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in Sofia (October 27, 1913 - February 2, 1915) was presented.
Two tapestries featuring images of Ataturk were among those displayed on Sunday.
BISAV Chairman Yuksel Ozkale said the exhibition was "a wonderful event showcasing the exceptionally good relations between Bulgaria and Turkiye". He added that the key message of the exhibition is "peace".
Tapestry artisans Senguzel Aydin and Munevver Yilmaz briefly talked about the history of tapestry-making. A total of 40 hand-crafted tapestries were on display. The guests viewed the exhibition with great interest.
