Belgrade celebrates New Year from December 31 until the end of January.

On the eve of January 1, the Serbs welcome the New Year, but on January 2 they continue because January 6 and 7 are coming, when they celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas. On January 13 and 14 they will again celebrate the New Year, known as the Serbian New Year.

"Belgrade Winter 2024/2025" is a free programme of concerts and events in the Serbian capital that will run until the end of January, Serbian media write.

The traditional countdown of the last 10 seconds of 2024 will take place at Belgrade Tower, and at midnight a light and pyrotechnic spectacle will begin in the sky over the Danube and Sava rivers.

By tradition, on January 1 every year, Svetogorska Street in the Serbian capital is renamed to Open Heart Street, the traffic stops and people come out to sing and dance, announced the President of the Belgrade City Council Nikola Nikodijevic.

Open Heart Street is one of the events that has long gone beyond Belgrade's borders and has become a recognizable brand that promotes the most humane values, Nikodijevic added in an interview with Serbian national broadcaster RTS.

The Interior Ministry warned citizens not to use pyrotechnics during the holidays because they are dangerous to life and health. The fine for violating public order when using them is about EUR 850.
