Twenty-one kg of smuggled silver jewellery were seized by customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing during an inspection of a truck entering the country from Turkiye, the Customs Agency said on Monday.
On December 19, 2024, a foreign-plated tractor-trailer arrived at the border crossing. The driver, a Serbian citizen, presented regular documents for goods transported from Turkiye via Bulgaria to Serbia. The vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection, during which 78 packages of white metal jewellery were found in the driver's cabin, in a compartment under the bed. The items found - rings, pendants, bracelets, necklaces, chains, earrings - are silver, weighing a total of 21,027 grams and are estimated at BGN 168,216.
The contraband jewellery was seized. Pretrial proceedings have been opened into the case.
