Volunteers demanded access to the municipal shelters for stray dogs on the upcoming weekends in front of Sofia Municipality on Monday.

The volunteers stressed that the staff at the clinic and shelters is greatly reduced during the holidays and there is a lack of care for the dogs. They pointed out that the animals in the shelters are not taken for a walk and do not spend time outside their cages. The municipal shelters in question are located in the Sofia district of Slatina, the villages of Seslavtsi and Gorni Bogrov, as well as the Vrabnitsa veterinary clinic.

In July, the volunteers were supported by municipal councilors in their demand for the cancellation of the order prohibiting their access to the veterinary clinic, which so far has not been revoked.

In September, Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev met with the volunteers, after which Sofia Municipality stated that the regulation of access to the clinic and shelters will be sought by drawing up a new regulation.
