More than 67% of Romanian citizens would prefer their next president to be a pro-Western one, while 17.1% share a contrary opinion. Another 3.9% say this does not matter, while 11.5 percent are hesitant about it, according to a poll conducted by Romanian sociological agency INSCOP between October 11 and 18.
Some 70.6% of the respondents preferred the presidential candidate to be experienced, while 24.5% preferred him to be younger. A total of 3.7% believe age does not matter, while 1.2% are hesitant.
44.5% of the respondents would prefer the future president of Romania to be not affiliated with any parties, while 41.9% share the contrary opinion. Another 7.1% believe this does not matter, while 6.5% are hesitant.
According to the poll, the citizens who prefer a pro-Western candidate can be found among the voters of Mircea Geoana and Elena-Valerica Lasconi, voters of the opposition Save Romania Union party, young people under 30, people with higher education, and residents of Bucharest or other large urban areas.
The respondents who prefer an anti-Western candidate are those who vote for George Simion, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians party, those with primary education, and TikTok users.
The survey was conducted among 1106 participants interviewed by telephone. The statistical margin of error stands at ±2.95%, at a confidence level of 95%.
