Largest chocolate festival in Romania is taking place in Bucharest until Sunday evening. The event is being held in the Palace Hall conference centre in the Romanian capital.

The third edition of Chocolate Saga gathers 30 chocolate manufacturers from Romania, 5 manufacturers from Poland, Moldova and Bulgaria and over 30 companies from related fields.

The organisers of the festival told BTA that Romania produces some 5,000 tons of chocolate a year worth around EUR 50 million. Annual chocolate consumption in Romania amounts to EUR 600 million, ranking the country tenth in Europe in chocolate consumption. On average, one Romanian eats around 4.95 kg per year.

Although Romania's chocolate industry is a fledgling one, the country has started winning some of the most prestigious international chocolate competitions, the organisers also explained.
