Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic Thursday said that in addition to the construction of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad railway line, Serbia is working with Bulgaria on a link between the Port of Vidin and Zajecar and a high-speed railway line from Nis to Sofia. Tanjug also quotes Vesic as saying during an inspection of the Zlatibrod motorway: "We are negotiating with Bulgaria on a high-speed railway line to the Serbian-Bulgarian border, and they are already working on their part to Sofia."
He went on to say that Turkiye is working on the section from Istanbul to the Turkish-Bulgarian border. Once Sofia gets linked to that border, there will be a high-speed railway line from Nis to Istanbul. There will be such a line to Skopje, Thessaloniki, and Athens as well, he added.
Once the Nis-Dimitrovgrad line is reconstructed, trains will run at 120 km/h. The line will be safe and electrified, the Serbian Minister noted. In his words, it is important to invest in railway lines, because this is a mode of transport with high capacity, and the number of cars and pollution decrease.
