The Ministers of Transport and Regional Development are taking urgent steps to ensure completion of the Environmental Impact Assessment under the FAST Danube project and prepare the investment proposal for the implementation of activities under the project.

The FAST Danube project is funded under Connecting Europe Facility 2014-2020. The project partners are the two waterway administrations of Romania and Bulgaria, respectively AFDJ Galati and IAPPD Russe.

The project aims to improve conditions for navigation and traffic safety in the stretch of Danube shared by Bulgaria and Romania, by increasing the number of days in a year when the water is navigable from 280 to 340.

This is expected to increase the traffic of transported goods by 20%.

The deadline for applying for funding under the Connecting Europe Facility 202102027 is January 31 2024.
