Bulgaria, Greece and Romania agreed to work together to strengthen regional connectivity in all its forms at a trilateral meeting held Monday at the Euxinograd residence near Varna, the press centre of the Council of Ministers stated. The meeting was held on the initiative of Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and featured Greek Prime Ministers Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Romanian Prime Minister Ion-Marcel Ciolacu.

The three countries will also continue to develop their cooperation to ensure regional and Euro-Atlantic security in Southeast Europe.

European Commissioners Margaritis Schinas and Adina-Ioana Valean, as well as Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov also participated as guests. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel and ministers from the Bulgarian government, Greece and Romania also took part in the thematic and plenary discussions.

The development of transport, energy and digital connectivity between the three countries was also discussed. "These issues today have a very important supraregional aspect, related to the events in Ukraine and in Israel. Europe can no longer afford to be disunited and dependent on external factors," Denkov pointed out.

The three prime ministers adopted a joint declaration. A memorandum will be prepared which will be followed by a treaty between the three countries, formulating the specific commitments on the implementation of the regional connectivity projects.

The prime ministers agreed on the strategic importance of the Black Sea in terms of Euro-Atlantic security in the region, especially against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine. They agreed on the need to develop this security within NATO.
