Four patients injured in a night club fire in Kocani, North Macedonia, and treated at the Pirogov Emergency Hospital will be discharged on Tuesday, Prof. Maya Argirova, the head of the burns and plastic surgery unit, told BTA. A total of 15 patients were brought to Bulgaria for treatment after the fire which broke out at the Pulse nightclub in the early hours of Sunday, March 16, 2025.

The four patients are in good condition. Laboratory follow-up of their clinical status and possibly a new surgical stage to be assessed depending on their condition, Argirova added.

Four other patients injured in the same incident will remain in the hospital. The hospital's press centre said that they are in a serious but stable condition and remain in intensive care. Multiple interventions are pending for their recovery.

The treatment of the four injured who will be discharged from Pirogov on Tuesday, will continue at the hospital, one of the parents of those admitted to the hospital told journalists. All four patients - aged 15, 16, 30 and 31 - will travel to Kocani and return to the hospital periodically as medical care is needed. "Our children are being discharged from the hospital today and we are here to thank the Director, the doctors and all the staff who treated our children with their human and professional activities," she added. The parents thanked Bulgaria, the Bulgarian people and all blood donors.

A total of 61 people died and 153 suffered varying degrees of burns and injuries in the Kocani disco fire. Most of the victims were aged between 14 and 25. The fire was caused by sparks from pyrotechnics used for lighting effects. Hundreds of people rushed to the only exit as flames engulfed the roof of the building.
