Sliven, Southern Bulgaria, August 8 (BTA) - Nearly 700 servicepersons with up to 100 units of military equipment from the Bulgarian, US, Albanian, Georgian, Moldovan, Romanian, Serbian and Montenegrin armed forces take part in the multinational joint exercise Platinum Lion 18 taking place at the Novo Selo Training Area, the Defence Ministry reported.

The exercise commenced on Monday and will continue until August 10.

On Wednesday the exercise trained interaction during a peace-keeping operation by a multinational joint force. The training included disarming of paramilitary and radical groups, actions in urban environment, detention of suspects, and evacuation of injured people.

Deputy Chief of Defence Vice Admiral Emil Eftimov said that Wednesday's demonstrations at Novo Selo confirm the capabilities of the Bulgarian Land Forces to plan, organize and conduct peace-keeping actions as part of a multinational force, and the interoperability of the Land Forces with the NATO partners.
