Students from the junior national science teams have brought Bulgaria 91 medals in 2024, Association of Olympic Teams in Natural Sciences (AOTNS) Director Valkan Goranov said on Friday. He recalled that the organization helps in the preparation and participation of the youngsters in the competitions, with the Ministry of Education bearing the main financial burden.

There are eight Olympic teams in the Association, and one more - in geography - will enter this year, Goranov added. Asked about the Artificial Intelligence Olympiad, which was created on Bulgaria's initiative, he said that this year the second edition of this competition will be held in Beijing.

An exhibition about the Bulgarian Science Olympians was presented in Varna on Friday, opening the 51st National Youth Astronomy Conference, hosted by the National Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium N. Copernicus.

"Actually, as Eva Bozhurova from the Observatory in Varna, who prepares the astronomy team, says, the mentors of these young people do not produce medal winners, they mostly produce good people who accumulate knowledge and with a lot of hard work later win medals," Goranov said.
