site.btaUS Is Revisiting Lifting of Visas for Romania, Romanian News Outlets Say
The US Department of Homeland Security told HotNews (hotnews.ro) on Thursday evening that it is re-examining Romania's entry in the Visa Waiver Program, in line with the Trump administration's concern for the country's security, this media outlet reported. The response came after G4Media, Ştirile ProTv and News.ro wrote, citing diplomatic sources, that the Washington administration is discussing the possibility of postponing the Visa Waiver Program for Romania for two months. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Romanian Embassy in Washington said that there are currently no official communications regarding the change in date.
Romanians expected to start travelling to the US visa-free beginning March 31.
President Ilie Bolojan stated that he was informed about the Visa Waiver situation.
A possible delay is related to a general policy of the new administration regarding migration or to the cancellation of the elections in Romania, as a result of the interference of a "state actor", writes G4Media , citing diplomatic sources.
Contacted by HotNews, Government representatives say that there is no official information in this regard.
Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs say, in an official statement, that "there is no official information in this regard." "If there is a delay, they will announce it. It is a new administration, which may lead to changes and which has an absolute priority for border security issues," according to the Ministry.
