With a concert of the Bulgarian-French Orenda Trio, Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry marked International Francophonie Day at the National Archаeological Museum, the press office of the Мinistry announced on Friday.
“The Francophonie is a universe of languages, cultures, traditions and human contacts. This is its great charm and attraction force,” Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev said in his welcoming address to the audience before the Orenda Trio, a small Bulgarian choir in Paris, concert, organized by the Foreign Ministry to mark March 20th, International Francophonie Day.
Georgiev reminded the audience that the French language is traditionally the language of culture, arts, fashion, education, science and diplomacy. “Nowadays French is more and more used in entrepreneurship, new technologies, sustainable development and the social media. This opens new possibilities for dialogue, cooperation, trade and investment between countries that are far away geographically, but share the French language, common human values and desire for the pursuit of a better future,” the minister stressed.
The day of the French language and Francophonie culture is celebrated this year for the 55th time. The tradition’s beginning was in Niger on March 20th, 1970, when 21 states established the Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation, the predecessor of the International Organization of la Francophonie. Today this holiday is celebrated by 320 million people in 93 states and territories, on 5 continents.
Vice President Iliana Iotova, many diplomats, representatives of the academic community, cultural and public figures attended the event.
