A working meeting between Taraclia District President Lazar Dermenzhi and representatives of the academic leadership of Ruse University took place on Friday in Ruse. Dermenzhi, who was accompanied by the head of the External Relations Service of the Taraclia Regional Council, Lyudmila Bishir, met with Ruse Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Prof Teodor Iliev and Gencho Popov, Vice-Rector for Education Quality, Accreditation and Development of Branches and Divisions.

The topic of the meeting was the expansion of the activities of Taraclia State University and its process of transformation into a branch of Ruse University through modernization and addition of new specialties. During the meeting the Vice-Rectors of Ruse University confirmed their readiness to fully support the newly joined branch in its activities and that the choice of training programmes is fully consistent with the desire to meet the regional needs for specialists.

The participants in the meeting expressed their conviction that the accession of Taraclia State University to the structure of the Ruse University will contribute to the development of the Bulgarian communities in Moldova. Every year, linguistic practices and qualification courses are held at Ruse University for students and teachers from Taraclia and other regions in Moldova, with more than 300 Bulgarians from Moldova having undergone such training.

Since 2022, Ruse University has also been implementing long-term mobility of students from Taraclia State University under the Erasmus+ programme. The Bulgarian university also maintains active contact with the leadership of Taraclia Region and is involved in numerous initiatives, including folklore festivals, exhibitions of agricultural producers and Bulgarian language Olympiads.
