Tourism Minister Suggests Measures
Lengthening Summer Tourist
Season


Sofia, May 17 (BTA) - Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova Friday met with representatives of the tourism sector in the seaside village of Obzor, Angelkova's Ministry said in a press release. Angelkova said that the Ministry will allow no compromises for failure to comply with the requirement for 50 per cent free areas in beaches managed by tenants and concessionaires. In the event of doubts, in-situ surveying will be performed and if violations are established, the offenders may have their contracts terminated.

Angelkova said that about 30 contracts with beach tenants and concessionaires were terminated in the past two years over systematic violations. A total of 480,000 leva in penalties were collected in 2018. The Minister said that alerts about suspected violations in management of beaches can be made to an dedicated e-mail in the website of the Tourism Ministry.

The Minister told the participants in the meeting that active work is underway to promote seaside resorts as convention venues so that they can be used outside the busy summer season.

Tourism statistical data about Obzor shows that for 2018 it had a 3 per cent annual increase in the number of ovenights in places of accommodation with ten or more beds, and 8 per cent increase in proceeds from them.

Angelkova said that at the moment, there is a drop of one per cent in the planned flights to the nearby Bourgas Airport during the upcoming summer season. IG/ZH//
