SJC Representative Member Urges
Prompt Start of Prosecutor General
Election Procedure

Sofia, May 17 (BTA) - Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) Representative Member Boyan Magdalinchev believes that the procedure for electing a new Prosecutor General should start as early as possible. Emerging from a meeting with President Rumen Radev on Friday, Magdalinchev told journalists that the next Prosecutor General should be a professional, "a man in the system" who is familiar with its problems.

According to Magdalinchev, President Radev's ongoing consultations on the Prosecutor General's election are useful and necessary. He and the President discussed the election procedure in most general terms. He hopes that the majority in the SJC will not be swayed in any way during the election.

The SJC Representative Member dismissed allegations that the parliamentary quota holds a dominant position in the SJC, because if the presidents of the two supreme courts are added, the professional quota becomes the dominant one.

Radev's meeting with Magdalinchev was part of a series of consultations which the President is holding in connection with the upcoming election of the next Prosecutor General. The term of the current Prosecutor General, Sotir Tsatsarov, expires in January 2020. IG/VE
