Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Rosen Zhelyazkov, congratulated Friedrich Merz and the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) on their impressive electoral victory in the German Bundestag elections on X, former Twitter.

“I expect our cooperation as allies for a strong and prosperous European Union to develop,” Zhelyazkov wrote.

"Heartfelt congratulations on this decisive election victory. Europe needs strong Germany. Bulgaria needs strong Germany. For a way forward in security and prosperity," GERB leader Boyko Borissov wrote on X.

The conservative CDU/CSU bloc won the parliamentary elections in Germany with 29% of the vote, according to exit poll data announced by Deutsche Welle.

"We won the elections because we were very well-prepared," said Friedrich Merz, the CDU/CSU candidate for Chancellor, following the announcement of the election results.
