The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) has withstood the adversities of time and established itself as an important and valuable partner in the socio-economic life of the country, President Rumen Radev said, addressing the participants in the jubilee national conference on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of CITUB on Tuesday.
"CITUB has become a benchmark for expertise and openness in social dialogue, which is extremely important for our society. The high standing of the Confederation is due to all of you, trade union members. To your cohesion and firmness in defending the rights of workers in Bulgaria", said the head of State.
He congratulated the CITUB leadership for its courage to "seek the truth and fight for causes of national importance."
"You have been proven right on many issues, including the transition to a climate-neutral economy, where many of today's risks are already a reality. I want to be properly understood. It is not a question of whether we want this climate-neutral economy and this green clean future. Yes, I am convinced we all want it. It is about the path, the speed and the way in which we achieve that future. It should be done in such a way that we achieve it, but also that we do not harm the social status of workers and do not lose competitiveness," Radev said.
In his speech, he also highlighted the need to achieve justice for workers' rights in the complex processes of transformation.
The President asked for the Confederation's support for the idea of establishing a national centre for monitoring, coordination and management from space, which would receive real-time information about certain processes on the territory of the country. According to Radev, this centre could monitor the presence of pollution, the purity of air, water and soil, as well as the levels of rivers and dams. Transport, roads and borders could also be the subject of constant monitoring, he added. He said such a centre could maintain constant communication with various departments and agencies.
Greetings were also given by National Assemly Chair Nataliya Kiselova, Innovation and Growth Minister Tomislav Donchev and Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov.
